Normally the Matchmaking Dinner is taking place in a big location during gamesweekberlin, where the gaming industry is coming together for a nice evening, having good food and using the chance to network with new and established contacts. This year however, all is different and the successful format of the last years was not feasible because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, games:net berlinbrandenburg came up with a new concept to let the matchmaking happen without an actual dinner this year through a digital tool called Wonder by Berlin Start-up YooTribe. (find more info on Wonder here)
With 135 guests from the gaming industry registered for the event, a peak of more than 100 participants at the same time took part in the matchmaking event on Thursday 29th of October and clearly enjoyed the possibility to network.
One of the outstanding points from the usual concept of the Matchmaking Dinner was, that after each course half of the people would change their seats, so for every course of the menu, people are sitting with different guests, to ensure the matchmaking. This year this happened via call outs by Lars Vormann – Head of games:net at medianet berlinbrandenburg – who asked the participants kindly to move around in the online rooms and talk to other guests.
We are all looking forward to let the Matchmaking Dinner happen again live and in physical form next year, but will be working on more digital solutions just in case the pandemic is still prohibiting physical networking events impossible, to ensure that the Matchmaking will continuously happen.
